Sustainability

Sustainability = Cost Avoidance in Theatre, Dance, and Visual Arts

We put our sets together using drywall screws.
Why: Because we take the screws out after we've used the set piece.  We put the lumber, flat, etc into storage and put the screws in our supply cabinet.  It all is available to be used on the next set.

We have used the same steps, platforms, and flats in many of our shows.
How: We just paint over them and reconfigure them to fit our new set needs.

Dance and Theatre share set parts.
How: When we build something that can be used more than once, we build it sturdily.

When we have a show that runs for more than one performance, we put a basket at the back of the auditorium to collect programs to be used for subsequent shows.
Why: This allows us to print less programs.

We buy costumes and props at thrift stores (Goodwill and other used clothing stores) whenever we can.
Why: Because it's cheaper, we seldom need new, often need a period look, and we're giving the items a second life.

We borrow furniture and props whenever we can.
Why: It's even cheaper than buying at a thrift store.

Don't throw away items you no longer need.
Why: We happily accept costume, prop, and set donations!!

We happily accept donations of latex paint left over from homeowner projects.
We have our talented Visual Art team mix from our existing paint to make the color we want to use.

We used word from old sets to build our lumber rack and our paint rack.
Why: Because you can't know what you have and reuse it without a storage system.
